Episcopal Ordination of Niall Coll as Bishop of Ossory

 

On Sunday last 22nd January 2023 Fr. Niall Coll was installed as Bishop of Ossory in St. Mary’s Cathedral, Kilkenny.

 

Niall Coll was born in 1963 in St. Johnston, Co. Donegal. In 1981 he entered the National Seminary at Maynooth. He was ordained in 1988 for the Diocese of Raphoe. Following further studies he was appointed as chaplain and teacher to St. Eunan’s College, Letterkenny. He was awarded a Doctoral Degree in 1995. Having lectured in Maynooth, Fr. Coll became Curate of Dungloe in 1998. In 2020 after a number of distinguished lecturing and chaplaincy posts, he became Parish Priest of Dunholm.

In October 2022 Pope Francis announced Fr. Coll’s appointment as Bishop of Ossory.

 

Piltown Karate Club are back in Training every Monday and Wednesday night in the Community Centre after the Christmas break. We look forward to the 2023 Competition Series and a Grading in April by our Japanese Instructor. Last year three club members, Brighid Twohig, Ryan O’Shea and Breandan Twohig competed in the European Championships in Holland. Read more about them on the Parish Website. Piltown School  Swimming and G.A.A. has recommenced.  Sixth class will attend Mass each Friday in preparation for their Confirmation on March 26th. Second class are currently being prepared for First Confessions which will take place on Tuesday, March 28th (not Friday, March 31st as per calendar). To mark Catholic Schools Week, the whole school will attend mass on Friday, February 3rd at 10am and Fr. Moore will bless our throats for St. Blaise’s Day. We have a series of lessons and events planned for Catholic Schools Week and look forward to marking this special time in our school calendar.

Thank you to our Parents Association for raising €1,800 during the recent Christmas Raffle. This money will be used to purchase Sports Equipment, Yard Equipment and two ipads. We are planning a special Grandparents Day this year for Thursday, March 16th and will furnish you with more details in the coming weeks.
